Media Studies is among one of the most popular and successful subjects here at St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School. In this rapidly growing society, constantly powered by new technologies and the media, this subject has become truly valuable and a key motor in preparing young people for the world of work and for jobs of the future. 媒体研究 is becoming increasingly recognised by well known organisations which value the level of technical and analytical understanding that our students acquire through the course.
The media is a powerful and lucrative industry which employs thousands of people every year. Situated in the heart of London, learning 媒体研究 at St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School is a real bonus. Its proximity to the British Film Institute (BFI), the IMAX, theatres and companies like IPC Media and The Financial Times provide ample opportunities for our students to benefit from networking with industry professionals which can culminate in work experience like in the past years.
At St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School, we aim to prepare our students for the world of work where we try to expose them to the realities and expectations of organisations through simulation exercises or trips and visits, so that our students are able to find their career interests facilitating them with their university choices. With a subject like 媒体研究 which keeps students updated on the recent trends and developments in the media, it is satisfying to see how much practical knowledge our students end up acquiring. We have had students who have had work experience at IPC Media, ITV and many of them have chosen to pursue studies in the media at university.
At St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School, our students have the facility of using state of the art equipment and software packages that allow them to successfully complete their practical coursework to a professional standard. For print work, students use Photoshop, Publisher and Indesign while HD Cameras and tripods with dollies are supplied for the realisation of film productions. In order to add the professional finish to the work produced, our students use Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Express for the montage. For audio type work, Audacity is used and for web based work, it is IWeb or Wix.com. The school continues to make a significant effort in helping the department with the provision of new technologies to assist our students in the successful completion of the course.
